Dorothy Garcia
Dorothy Garcia’s favorite books are women's fiction, mystery, thriller, and literary fiction. Her favorite authors are Isabel Allende, Julia Alvarez, and Louise Penny. She also enjoys the work of Michael Connelly, Lee Child, and JK Rowling (publishing under Kenneth Galbraith).
Garcia has a Ph.D. in Political Science and minored in English Literature as an undergraduate. She has studied writing at the University of Iowa Summer Writing Workshop, the University of New Mexico, the Manuscript Academy, and taken private coursework with authors and writers to hone her craft. She also studies books on writing on her own – for example, The Emotional Craft of Fiction, Save The Cat, The Truth That Tells The Lie, and many others.
She has published a non-fiction book in her early academic career (Videostyle in Senate Campaigns, University of Tennessee Press, 1987). She finished her first novel and is in the process of seeking representation. The first chapter won second place in the CWA's first chapter contest in 2024.
